Making Friends
Ensuring you have a strong social life during high school can set you up for success later in life! It’s important to pick a group of friends or some best friends that you know will be successful in the future. Making friends that are in your classes can provide study buddies or college admission essay reviewers later on. A variety of friends with different interests can help expand your social circle and support. For example, having friends that are more academic-focused can provide resources for SAT/ACT and AP tests. Having friends that are more into fitness and health can help improve your overall appearance and physical health. Avoid classmates that don’t study, have a plan after high school, or are struggling in class because they can bring you down with them.
Events
High school provides a lot more events and experiences than middle school. Aim to attend at least one football or basketball game and at least one prom. Many people have lifelong regrets of not getting to experience these events, so going to at least one will provide you with the satisfaction that you tried something new. If you enjoy these things, going to them can create or strengthen bonds. If you don’t, you learned that these events are not your style and you are closer to finding what you truly are passionate about. Parties are also a great way to meet new people or pass time with old friends. Like before, going to at least one can help you understand yourself better. This can lead to helping with picking a college/university down the line as some schools are well known for being party schools. If you enjoyed parties in high school, aim for more social and party-hard schools such as University of California – Santa Barbara and University of Alabama.
